1. Follow Your Visa-Category Instructions

K-1 fiancé visa applicants and CR-1 or IR-1 spouse visa applicants do not use all the same forms or financial documents.

• K-1 and K-2 applicants: Follow the K-visa instructions and complete Form DS-160.

2. Register the Appointment

Register the appointment through the authorized Jamaica visa appointment service. Registration provides the information needed to return the passport after the interview and is required before cancellation or rescheduling.

3. Schedule the Medical Exam

Contact the approved hospital as soon as the interview date is received. The examination must be completed before the interview, and results from other physicians or facilities are not accepted.

4. Organize Original Documents

Bring the originals required for the visa category, at least one good-quality photocopy of each civil document, required translations, financial sponsorship documents, and relationship evidence.

Residents of Jamaica

1. Pay the current police-record fee at a Tax Office in Jamaica.
2. Present a passport, two passport-size photographs, a Taxpayer Registration Number, and evidence that the record is required for immigration purposes.
3. Take the receipt and supporting documents to the Technical Services Division of the Criminal Records Office at 34 Duke Street in downtown Kingston.
4. Complete fingerprinting and return at the end of the selected processing period to collect the police record.

Jamaicans Living Abroad and Former Residents

An applicant abroad may authorize someone in Jamaica to apply on the applicant’s behalf. The representative generally needs:

• Notarized fingerprints
• Two passport-size photographs
• A copy of the passport biographic page
• A signed consent letter authorizing the application

When the applicant has no TRN, the State Department instructions direct payment through the Ministry of National Security at 2 Oxford Road, Kingston 5, before the documents are taken to 34 Duke Street for processing.

Exam and Fee Information

The examination may include a medical-history review, physical examination, chest X-ray, gonorrhea testing, laboratory testing for applicants age 15 or older, tuberculosis testing for applicants age two or older, and required vaccinations.

Medical-exam, laboratory, X-ray, and vaccination charges are paid directly to the hospital. Confirm the current fees when scheduling because the total varies by age, testing, and vaccination needs.

After the Examination

The physician will either send the results directly to the embassy or provide them in a sealed envelope. Do not open a sealed medical envelope; bring it to the interview.

Applicants who receive X-rays should follow the physician’s instructions. The current post guidance says X-rays generally do not need to be brought to the interview unless tuberculosis is diagnosed, but they should be carried when entering the United States as an immigrant.

Where is the U.S. Embassy in Kingston?

Can a regular doctor perform the visa medical exam?

No. The current Kingston instructions state that only the approved facility—Andrews Memorial Hospital—may perform the examination. Results from other doctors or facilities are not accepted.

How recent must the police record be?

The current Kingston post checklist instructs applicants age 16 or older to bring an original police certificate dated less than six months before the interview, subject to the applicant’s case-specific instructions.

Does a K-1 applicant use Form I-134 or Form I-864?

A K-1 fiancé visa applicant normally presents Form I-134 with current financial evidence at the consular stage. A CR-1 or IR-1 spouse immigrant visa case normally uses Form I-864.

Why should Jamaican civil-document copies be reduced to 92%?

Some certified RGD records are longer than standard letter-size paper and contain serial numbers at both the top and bottom. Reducing the copy to 92% helps preserve both serial numbers.

Can airline tickets be purchased immediately after the interview?

Wait until the visa has been issued and the passport has been returned. Additional documents or administrative processing may still be required after an interview.
